2011 Church Highlights
Oct. 9 - Quarterly Business Meeting. Pastor Hand announced his resignation as pastor on Sept. 25, and spoke about it again. His last Sunday here being Oct. 23. The $300 Wayne Petersen Memorial will be spent on new white tables for the fellowship hall. Also, Missionaries John & Lynna Murray have changed mission agencies to the Central Missionary Clearing House of Houston, TX.
The vacated positions filled were as follows:

JOY Club Commander - Donna W.
Social Committe Group #1 - Julia B.
Sunday School Secretary (substitute) - Julia B.
It was also agreed that the Jason Nightingale meetings (Nov. 13-16) would be cancelled due to the our not having a pastor.
July 31 - 60th Anniversary Celebration. With many former pastors, charter members, former members, current members and friends coming together to celebrate and worship the Lord, this was truly a blessed day. God has been good to Calvary Baptist Church. Speakers included current IARBC State Representative Joe Hayes and former CBC Pastors Max Bowlin and John Murrary. The ushers tallied 98 for our AM service attendance. Pizza Hut catered the lunch and a dessert fellowship was enjoyed after the last service.

July 10 - Quarterly Business Meeting. We discussed the past Sunday at the Lake (June 5) and the future 60th Anniversary Celebration (July 31). Tim and Ruth G. and Ron H. were elected ProTeens sponsors for the coming school year, and Rob S. was elected JOY Club Commander again.
June 26 - Sunday: Javaux Family Concert during the AM Service. Stephanie Javaux and her four kids ministered in song and testimony. There was harp, cello, violin, piano and vocal music.

June 5 - Sunday: We had our second annual joint service and picnic with Grace Baptist Church of Harlan. Last year it was rainy so we met at their church, but this year the weather was superb. Pastor Joe Earle spoke on greatness through humility and service and a picnic and fellowship was enjoyed by all who came.
May 31-June 4 - VBS: This year our
No salvation decisions were made this year but everyone had fun learning about the Lord. On Tuesday, the kids were challenged to join Jesus’ team, and we looked at His calling Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow Him. On Wednesday, the focus was on Jesus’ miracles – His healing a woman sick 12 years and bringing a 12-year-old girl back to life. On Thursday, the lesson was on greatness – in service and humility. The Friday lesson was on Jesus’ resurrection and ascension – the proof of His victory of sin and death. On Saturday, the kids were challenged to “carry on” and share the Gospel with others, just as Peter and John did in the book of Acts.

Jerry Hansen did a great job as our VBS director, Mindy played the piano, Erika Lees headed up the puppets, Elaine led craft time and Ron H. lent his 4-wheeler to drive the Jesus Train. Our teachers were Suzanne Lees, Linda Booth, Pastor Hand, Donna Wood, Tim & Fran Branan and Rob & Sarah Sampson. Thanks to
April 24 - Easter Sunday: Rob Sampson headed up a delicious made-to-order breakfast. Thanks to all who helped! The choir also sang two songs in the morning service.
April 10 - Sunday: Quarterly Bus. Meeting - Seventeen inactive members were removed from the membership roll to maintain the integrity of membership. Also, Prayer Meeting was "officially" moved from Wednesday Nights to Sunday Nights at 6:15pm. In the 6-week trial run, attendance ranged from 15 to 20, after averaging 5 for the entire school year. Prayer is vitally important!
April 2 - Saturday: Fifteen men (a few with chain saws) met at the Parsonage to cut down the tree in the front yard. It only took 2 hours (9-11 am) and there was some tree-trimming done at the Church. Thanks Gale for the boom truck and Rob for heading it up!
The stump was ground a week later (Apr. 9).
March 17 - Thursday: We celebrated the life & memory of Wayne Petersen, 88, who went to be with the Lord. The funeral service was at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca and a lunch was enjoyed at church after the burial.
January 18 - Tuesday: Hosted the Regional Pastors & Wives Fellowship.
There were 19 people present, including 5 area pastors from our fellowship:
Jim Ackerson - Guthrie Center; Mike Martin - Cumberland; Joe Earle - Harlan; Shannon Chickering - Manning & aaron hand - walnut.
January 16 - Sunday: Missionary Speaker. Ben & Katie Wooster were with us during the day, and Ben spoke in the Sunday School and Evening Worship hours.
They are missionary appointees with CBM to be church builders in America. Their sending church is Calvary Baptist of Manning and when with us their support level was 7 percent.
January 9 - Sunday: Annual Meeting. The 2011 Church Officers were elected.

In other business... Ken J. gave his testimony and was approved for church membership. Ron resigned as deacon and Richard was approved for fulfill his term.
